The profile of return migrants in Albania
The migrants returning to Albania show a high degree of heterogeneity in their return motivation profiles. However, it is difficult to get a complete picture of the characteristics of returnees, and through this paper we want to try to describe their experiences before and during their life abroad and after their return to the home country.
Through clustering we will try to bring together returnees who have similar characteristics for their reason for return, bringing to homogeneous empirical typologies that reveal the complex system of interactions between the host country and the country of origin.
This paper identifies quite clearly at least two well-differentiated groups according to the motivations of return migrants and provides some policy recommendations to increase inflows and fully exploit the potential of returnees for the economic and social growth of the country.
However, current programs and facilities for the re-integration of returnees in Albania need to move away from their mainstream approach in order to take into account the wide variety of the profiles of returnees.
